Scholarships

of Texas Equine Veterinary Association and Texas Equine Veterinary Association Foundation

Our primary two scholarships are listed below. Please read the description fully, or download the description as a PDF here. 

We also have endowed scholarships currently available at Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine, Oklahoma State University and Louisiana State University. Applicants must apply through their respective school’s scholarship system to be eligible. The TEVA Board of Directors has no input on recipients of this scholarship.

Equitarian Scholarship

Amount: $1,500
Deadline: January 31st
Awards Announced: On or prior to March 1 
Selection Committee for this award: TEVA Foundation Board of Directors
Number awarded annually: TEVA will be awarding up to 4 scholarships for attendance of the TEVA Equitarian Workshop an 8 Day Trip

Eligibility will be based on:
Being 3rd or 4th year in veterinary school or any practicing veterinarian
Being an active member of TEVA (dues can accompany application) and;
Completion of application
Must be a resident of Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas or Louisiana
Ability to attend the Summer CE Symposium in the year scholarships is awarded. 


The TEVA Equitarian Project will consist of philanthropic work on equids in rural Guatemala in conjunction with local veterinarians. A passport is required. Air and in country travel, meals and accommodations can be covered by the $1,500 scholarship. A petition for scholarship expansion is considered on a case by case basis to cover rises in flight costs, etc. Additional spending money is the student’s responsibility.

Application:
a. Write a letter (limit 2 Pages) stating why you believe you deserve the scholarship. You should discuss both your personal and professional accomplishments and your future goals, particularly as they relate to equine veterinary medicine and include any information in regard to descriptors above that are not included in CV. The application should also feature any charitable or philanthropic activities you have participated in.
b. CV
c. One letter of reference

The students that receive the Equitarian Scholarship, will not be eligible for the Equine Experience Scholarship.

Equine Experience Scholarship

Equine experience scholarships are available for externships, domestic equine health related projects, creative learning opportunities, continuing education, or anything that will further your Equine-focused education.

Amount: $500
Number awarded annually: up to 12
Deadline for Application: May 1
Awards Announced: On or prior to June 1 
Selection Committee for this award: TEVA Foundation Board of Directors


Eligibility will be based on:
Must be currently attending the veterinary school at Texas A&M University, Oklahoma State University or Louisiana State University
Preference will be given to 3rd or 4th year students, but open to all current CVM students
Being an active member of TEVA (dues can accompany completed application)
Ability to attend the Summer CE Symposium in the year scholarship is awarded.
