Disaster and Crisis Relief
In the fall of 2017 when Hurricane Harvey hit Texas, we found ourselves in a unique position. We were able to coordinate relief efforts to stockpile hay, feed, fencing, buckets, general veterinary supplies and more for the victims of Harvey. Since then we have continued to work along side the the Veterinary Emergency Team out of Texas A&M University, in their response to equine related disaster relief nationwide. We have partnered with AAEP and other groups to continue to aid in natural disasters, as it helps the horse and livestock communities throughout our region. While our response varies by disaster, our goal is to help provide hay and feed to areas damaged by natural disasters - and to support our member veterinarians as they serve their community in those times of need.
We have also found a niche to serve the unique need of our members during times of personal crisis. We have aided member veterinarians who have lost their homes and clinics to fires. We have sent aid to member veterinarians who have undergone personal health crisis’ or family emergencies. After all, they are small business owners and are often times responsible for keeping the doors open and income flowing to support an array of staff in addition to their own families.
We believe there is no better way to support our fellow horse doctors, than to be available to them in times of need. If you know of a fellow veterinarian in crisis, please let us know. We are here to help. We know our profession tends to be made up of those who serve others whole heartedly while putting our own needs last. Our application process is very simple and we are happy to help.
