Student Outreach
As you may know, equine veterinarians are facing a crisis. Less than 1.5% of students graduating from vet school right now are going into Equine. We want to fix that. We invite students who are intending to work on horses or have an interest in being horse doctors to attend all TEVA activities. We believe that by networking with these students and getting to know them, early on in their academic journey, we can show them that equine medicine is a wonderful career.
Students have an opportunity to come to our Symposium each August, where they volunteer their time to help put on the event. Students will meet numerous practitioners from around our region, get hands on time during wet labs, sit in on any lecture they’d like, assist in the Foundation fundraiser that helps to fund such activities for the next class, mingle with other like-minded students from other universities and more.
We also host “TEVA CHATS” at the various veterinary schools in our region, to encourage the network of horse doctors to thrive. We bring in local veterinarians and any interested students, and have a casual conversation about what real-world practice is like. We hope that these CHATS will provide a network with a mentoring type atmosphere that encourages students to become horse doctors. We want to tell our story. We believe that if students hear our stories from us, they will agree when we say there is no better career in the world, then being a horse doctor.
We also make an annual contribution to Veterinarians Encouraging and Teaching. They are an Oklahoma based group of veterinarians that are making a big impact on students.
