The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences, School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (VMBS) at Texas A&M University (TAMU) (http://vetmed.tamu.edu/), is seeking applicants for a full-time, 11-month, clinical non-tenure track position in the area of large animal veterinary practice, at the Texas A&M Veterinary Education, Research & Outreach (VERO) program (https://vetmed.tamu.edu/vero/), at the West Texas A&M University campus in Canyon, Texas (https://vetmed.tamu.edu/vero/employment-opportunities/). This appointment may be at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, or Clinical Professor commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. We are seeking an innovative and dynamic mixed/predominately large animal veterinarian with a broad set of skills in large animal practice. The primary responsibility for this position will be to support the 4th year rotations offered at the VERO campus. Other responsibilities will include collaborative teaching in the first two years of the pre-clinical 2 2 curriculum, recruitment efforts of pre-veterinary students at West Texas A&M University, and outreach and engagement with regional industry and veterinary stakeholders. The anticipated start date is Fall 2024.
This position will have a VMBS academic home in the Veterinary Large Animal Clinical Sciences Department. The clinical track faculty hire will devote approximately 30% effort to patient care, 50-60% to teaching and 10-20% to service.
The VERO Program represents a unique partnership between TAMU and WTAMU and is located in the heart of one of the most productive animal agricultural regions in the world and including the third largest milkshed in the United States. Dairies with more than 600,000 lactating cows are located within a 120-mile radius, and the Texas Panhandle is home to one of the world’s largest fed beef industries, providing ~25% of the annual U.S. fed cattle supply. Additionally, the VERO program partners with regional veterinary practices to offer supervised clinical rotations in rural practice. The successful candidate is expected to engage in outreach to all of these stakeholder groups through network building and advocacy.
In addition to support of 4th year rotations, the successful candidate will also participate with other faculty in teaching and mentoring of undergraduate and veterinary students through the VERO Program’s educational programs. Specifically, this candidate will be asked to assist with growth and delivery of experiential training opportunities utilizing the tremendous industry and practice partner resources present at the VERO program’s doorstep. The successful candidate will participate actively in other duties related to the program mission on a daily basis, and provide service and leadership to support VERO Program, Department, School, and University activities. This position is also expected to provide support and leadership to affiliated outside organizations. It is a strong expectation that members of the VERO team will support each other to promote the program’s mission by adhering to the VMBS Code of Conduct. The successful candidate must have strong positive interpersonal skills along with a demonstrated record of promoting highly collegial and collaborative team interactions.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent degree, be able to hold a Texas state veterinary license, a DEA license, and USDA Category II accreditation. Previous private and/or academic large animal practice experience is strongly preferred as is being certified or interested in pursuing certification through the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners or other specialty disciplines (i.e. ACVPM). The successful candidate will have a primary instructional role and will participate in instruction of the integrated and highly experiential DVM curriculum at the VERO campus. As a clinician educator, this unique position includes a primary role in the two preclinical years of the DVM curriculum with an emphasis on equine individual and herd health. Equine veterinarians with an interest in teaching a small cohort of eighteen veterinary students using a combination of didactic, small group teaching, and active learning sessions are encouraged to apply. The individual will collaboratively instruct pre-clinical course content including clinical skills, professional skills, and critical thinking as it pertains to equine clinical practice which is contiguous through the first six semesters of the curriculum. In these courses students gain clinical skills in the simulation laboratory, professional skills, including communication, ethical decision-making, personal and professional finance, and critical thinking skills through problem-based instruction. Faculty in the DVM 2 2 program “cross-over” and teach in multiple courses to reinforce content related to their subject matter interest across the 2 2 program.
In addition to preclinical teaching in the DVM program, the position also includes support for 4th year clinical rotations at VERO, which include equine rotations centered around preventive care and wellness of working horses (e.g., the numerous working horses at surrounding feed lots and the horses stationed on the WTAMU campus). Opportunities for equine clinical teaching exist in the local community as well as the TAMU Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital in College Station for candidates interested in additional clinical work. The equine veterinary educator is expected to devote 80-85% effort to teaching and 15-20% effort to service. The VERO 2 2 DVM program offers an exciting opportunity to work within a collaborative academic culture and to serve as a role model and mentor for a small cohort of veterinary students. Qualifications
Applicants must have a DVM or VMD degree (or equivalent). Board certification in Large Animal Internal Medicine (LAIM) by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) or the European College of Equine Internal Medicine (ECEIM) or in the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (Equine) is desired. Sports medicine, dentistry, and preventive medicine make up the balance of the caseload. Emergency duties are shared evenly with a second local practice.

Responsibilities include:
• Provide effective communication and technical support to veterinarians, surgeons, and other staff members in the delivery of primary care, diagnostic services, and disease control. Essential care duties include, but are not limited to, administering treatments, preparing medications, and taking physicals.
• Observe patients’ comfort and needs, alerting doctors of any problems.
• Assist with surgical procedures o Prepare the operating room, placement of patient, and preparation of the surgical site

Texas Equine Hospital is seeking a full-time Equine Associate Veterinarian.
Texas Equine Hospital is located in Central Texas. Our hospital is a full service primary care and referral/second opinion hospital. Texas Equine Hospital is an exclusively equine practice focusing on sports medicine and surgery (orthopedic and soft tissue), in addition to being a full service facility treating a wide range of primary care cases. We see around 15,000 horses a year. Our veterinarians treat a wide array of disciplines including western performance, rodeo, racing, dressage, hunter/jumper, pleasure, polo, endurance and companion horses.
We have 2 boarded surgeons, 2 general practitioner, 4 interns, 20+ technicians, 10 office staff/administrative support staff. The hospital has a fully equipped surgical suite, three recovery rooms, two imaging rooms, five exam rooms, pharmacy, lab, reception area, two apartments, and a conference/surgery viewing room.
